Did you know that when rinsed down the drain, fats, oils, and grease (FOG) can cause blockages in your pipes? These costly FOG clogs can be easily prevented with a few simple steps:
• Discard your food debris in the trash instead of in the sink or garbage disposal.
• Pour old cooking oils into a can to cool, then discard it in the trash.
• Consider recycling using cooking oil at a recycling center near you.

Wipes, paper towels, and other items like feminine hygiene products, contraceptives, and disposable toilet brushes are often at the center of sewer clogs and backups. These backups ultimately mean costly repairs for property owners.
Medications should also never be flushed down the toilet. If you have used medications, consider participating in Fulton County’s Drug Disposal Program. All items are collected by the Fulton County Police Department and disposed of by incinerator at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Remember the 3P’s – Pee, Poop, and toilet Paper – are the only things that should ever be flushed down the toilet.
We all know that pet waste on sidewalks and lawns are unsightly and provide nasty odors, but did you know that pet waste can also add high levels of harmful bacteria and excess nutrients to our waterways? Be the solution to water pollution by picking up your pet’s waste. Do you know the last time your septic system was inspected and serviced? Fulton County recommends that you service your septic system every 3-5 years. Household products like automotive fluids, paint, pesticides, and cleaners should never be flushed down the drain, emptied onto the ground, or washed down community storm drains. These ordinary products can contaminate ground and surface water, damage septic systems, and endanger our most vulnerable family members. Participate in Fulton County’s annual Household Hazardous Waste pollution prevention days or recycle products at a recycling center near you.
