Fulton County Public Facilities Will Close On January 10

Fulton County public facilities will close to the public Friday based on National Weather Service predictions of a major winter storm expected to arrive Friday morning. This includes Fulton County courthouses, all government centers, senior centers, libraries, behavioral health and developmental disability facilities, and tax offices.

The storm is expected to bring freezing rain, gusty winds, and continued low temperatures throughout metro Atlanta.

Staff will continue to work virtually to support residents.

  • Many services are available online at www.fultoncountyga.gov.
  • Fulton County Superior Court has issued a state of judicial emergency, closing the Fulton County Courthouse and all related annexes Friday. All court deadlines and filing schedules will be suspended, tolled or extended for the duration of the closure.
  • All Family Division hearings set for Friday, January 10, will be rescheduled for Wednesday, January 22. Litigants may contact familydivision@fultoncountyga.gov or 404-613-0505 for more information.
  • Fulton County Magistrate Court EWI and first appearance calendars will proceed virtually, as scheduled.
  • Fulton County Libraries will be closed on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11. Online library services are available at www.fulcolibrary.org. All checked-out items due back during the closure will be given a one-week extension until Friday, Jan. 17.
  • The Fulton County Animal Services Facility will also close to the public on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11. Field operations will only take emergency calls and provide public safety support until regular operations resume.
  • Animal services is calling for emergency adoptions and fostering of dogs by 7 p.m. Thursday from the new shelter at 1251 Fulton Industrial Blvd. NW, and until 6 p.m. from the old shelter at 860 Marietta Blvd. NW. Residents may view adoptable pets at https://fultonanimalservices.com. Adoption fees are $25 through all of January.
  • Residents may continue to access services of the Fulton County Tax Commissioner at www.fultoncountytaxes.org or by phone at 404-613-6100. Vehicle tags are also available through kiosks in Kroger stores.

The closure includes all Fulton County Board of Health (FCBOH) clinics. If your appointment is impacted by this disruption, please call 770-520-7500 to reschedule. Clinics are expected to reopen for normal operations Monday, January. 13.

All Fulton County public safety and essential infrastructure services will continue. The Fulton County Behavioral Health Crisis Center at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway SW will remain open 24/7.

Many of Fulton County’s 15 cities are making winter weather preparations, including preparation of roadways and opening of warming centers. Both Fulton County and Atlanta Public Schools will also be closed on Friday, January 10.

The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency is coordinating with all Fulton County public safety partners during this weather event. Residents may monitor updates from AFCEMA @afcema on social media platforms.

Fulton County residents are encouraged to closely monitor weather conditions and prepare for possible power outages. Important preparedness steps include:

  • Charging mobile devices;
  • Ensuring that you have a supply of bottled water, necessary medicines and nonperishable food, including infant formula if needed;
  • Ensuring you have a working flashlight with extra batteries; and
  • Checking on friends and neighbors who are elderly or homebound.
