Fulton County Continues to Support Good Mental Health by Promoting 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

December 20, 2024
The 988 Lifeline offers 24/7 free and confidential support for anyone experiencing suicidal, mental health, or substance use crisis.
With rising levels of anxiety, depression, and substance use during the holiday season, Fulton County encourages individuals to seek help whenever they are in crisis. The 988 Lifeline is a direct connection to immediate and free resources for anyone in need of crisis support.

By simply calling or texting 988, or chatting 988lifeline.org, this will connect a person in crisis to compassionate care and support for any suicidal, mental health, or substance use-related distress. Anyone - a person in crisis, or someone supporting a person in crisis - can reach 988 in the United States via landline, cell phone, or voice-over internet device.

988 Lifeline crisis counselors are trained to help reduce the intensity of a situation for the person seeking help by listening and connecting them to additional local resources that support their wellbeing. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), about 98% of people who call, chat, or text the 988 Lifeline receive the crisis support they need and do not require additional services in that moment.

When an individual contacts the 988 Lifeline, he or she also has the option to remain anonymous. The 988 Lifeline crisis counselor only knows the person’s phone number if they call or text, or their IP address if they wish to chat.

Someone to talk to. Someone to respond. A safe place for help.
