Fulton County’s Cooperative Extension will kick-off the Summer 2024 Fulton Fresh Mobile Market Session I from Tuesday, May 28-Thursday, June 27, 2024.
The Mobile Market will travel to various sites offering free produce, educational courses, and culinary demonstrations to residents around the county in areas designated as food deserts by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The sessions will emphasize the importance of incorporating nutrition as a part of a healthy lifestyle, and the cooking demonstration will feature the produce being offered.
The USDA deems an area a food desert if there are at least 100 households located within more than half a mile from a supermarket and have no vehicle access. Other food deserts include areas in which either 500 people, or 33 percent of the population, live more than 20 miles from a supermarket, regardless of vehicle access.
