Fulton County’s Cooperative Extension will kick-off the Fall 2023 Fulton Fresh Mobile Market from Tuesday, October 3-Thursday, November 2, 2023.
The Mobile Market will travel the streets offering free produce, educational courses, and culinary demonstrations to residents around the county in areas designated as food deserts by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The courses will emphasize the importance of incorporating nutrition as a part of a healthy lifestyle, and the cooking demonstration correlates to the specific type of produce being offered.
The USDA deems an area a food desert if there are at least 100 households located within more than half a mile from a supermarket and have no vehicle access. Other food deserts include areas in which either 500 people, or 33 percent of the population, live more than 20 miles from a supermarket, regardless of vehicle access.
