The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections voted on Thursday, January 12 to select Nadine Williams as the sole finalist for the position of Director of Registration and Elections.
The decision follows a national search over the past several months to identify a leader for the Elections Department in the largest county in Georgia. The Department of Registration and Elections is responsible for conducting elections for Fulton County registered voters.
“Over the course of this past election cycle, Nadine Williams has served as the Interim Elections Director as well as in her previous position of Elections Chief,” said Chairman of the Board of Registration and Elections Cathy Woolard. “We have seen her prepare for and execute four elections in the past year, while improving processes and managing extra projects such as Redistricting and preparing for our move to a consolidated headquarters building. She’s done so with grace under pressure and with positive notice from observers ranging from The Carter Center to the Performance Review Board to volunteers and professionals with whom she works.”
Williams, who has served with Fulton County for more than 20 years, has worked in increasing levels of responsibility within the Department of Registration and Elections. Prior to being named to the role of Interim Director in 2022, she was named Elections Chief in 2020. Previously, Williams served as the Elections Equipment Manager from 2010 until 2020. While in this role, she supervised the purchasing and preparation of equipment and supplies needed for more than 250 Election Day polling sites and 40 Advanced Voting locations.
Williams has also served Fulton County in the capacity of Special Events Manager, a role in which she supervised and implemented all programs and presentations for the Atrium area in the Government Center.
“Being named the sole finalist is truly an honor, said Williams. “Ensuring that every registered voter in Fulton County is able to fairly and easily participate in the Elections process is why I have dedicated my professional life to this department. If approved, I will continue this important work Fulton County and our leaders are committed to.”
Among her many accomplishments, Williams received a Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University in 1996 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2006. She is a certified Georgia Election Official and is currently working to complete the Certified Elections Registration Administrator program.
The Board of Commissioners is expected to take action on the Board of Registration and Elections’ recommendation to name Williams as the Director of Elections Chief in early February.
