College Student Voting

To assist college students in exercising their right to vote, the following resources are available to engage students in the voting process:

REGISTERING TO VOTE
To register to vote you must:

• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be a legal resident of the county
• Be at least 17 1/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
• Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
• Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

VOTING ABSENTEE BY MAIL
Any voter registered in Georgia can vote absentee by mail. To apply, complete and sign the application from the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.

OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS / OUT-OF-COUNTY STUDENTS
An out-of-state student or out-of-county student wanting to vote can do so by requesting an absentee ballot from the county in which they are registered to vote. Visit your home County’s Voter Registration & Elections website or office for further instructions and specific requirements.

College Student Voting

How can I register to vote?

Go to your county registration office. If you have a valid Georgia driver’s license or state-issued ID card, you can register online at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov or download the FREE FULTON VOTES app on your smartphone. If you do not have a valid Georgia driver’s license to register online, you must submit an application by mail or in person.

Your application must include the following information:
• Full Name
• Residential Address
• Date of Birth
• Last 4 digits of Social/Valid GA Driver’s license/GA I.D. Number

After I’ve registered to vote, what’s the next steps?

You should receive a precinct card with your assigned precinct location in two to four weeks via postal mail. You can also visit the Georgia Secretary of State My Voter Page to review a variety of information

• Registration
• Your assigned Election Day Polling Location

Acceptable forms of identification?

When you vote early in-person or on Election Day, you must have one of the following forms of identification:

• A Georgia Driver’s license, even if expired
• Valid Out-of-State Driver’s License
• Any Valid State or Federal Issued Photo ID
• Student ID Card from a Georgia Public College or University
• Valid Employee Photo ID
• Valid U.S. Military Photo ID
• Valid U.S. Passport
• Valid Tribal-State ID

How do I find out in which Georgia County I am registered to vote?

You will not be able to utilize the Georgia Secretary of State My Voter Page if you do not know in which Georgia County you are registered to vote.

How do I find my polling location?

Please visit your home county voter registration and elections website to locate your information.

For Georgia Voters:

On Election Day, Georgia Voters must report to their assigned polling location to cast their ballot. For Georgia registered voters, you can visit the Georgia Secretary of State My Voter Page, to review your Election Day polling location.

How long must I reside at my new address before I vote?

You can submit an address change or register no fewer than 30 days before Election Day.

I am a college student can I register to vote with my school address?

Yes, college students who meet the generally applicable registration requirements may register to vote in the county where the student attends college. As a student, your home of record could affect scholarship eligibility and financial aid. Before changing your registration to the Georgia county where you attend college, make sure it does not conflict with any financial aid or scholarships you may receive from an out-of-state address.

Are college students eligible to work as a poll workers?

Yes, you must meet the following requirements to become eligible:

• At least 16 years of age
• Must be able to read and write the English language
• Must be a United States Citizen
• Must be a resident of Fulton County or a resident of an adjacent county
• Must have a willingness to serve
