College Student Voting

On Election Day, you must vote at your assigned precinct, which can be found on your precinct card or can be assessed using My Voter Page (

Any voter registered in Georgia can vote absentee by mail. To apply, complete and sign the application from the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page ( Then, mail, fax, email, or drop the application off at the Fulton County Registrar’s Office or your home county.

Absentee Ballots will be mailed to the address listed on the application. The ballot must be returned to any drop boxes located around the county or to the office by 7 p.m. on election night. You can find the ballot drop box locations and times on your county’s website.

An out-of-state student wanting to vote in their home state can do so by requesting an absentee ballot. Visit your home County’s Registration website or the office for further instructions and specific requirements. The ballot can be mailed to your address where you attend college.

College Student Voting

How can I register to vote?

Go to your county registration office. If you have a valid Georgia driver’s license or state-issued ID card, you can register online at or download the FREE FULTON VOTES app on your smartphone. If you do not have a valid Georgia driver’s license to register online, you must submit an application by mail or in person.

Your application must include the following information:
• Full Name
• Residential Address
• Date of Birth
• Last 4 digits of Social/Valid GA Driver’s license/GA I.D. Number

After I’ve registered to vote, what’s the next steps?

You should receive a precinct card with your assigned precinct location in two to four weeks. You can also visit the Georgia My Voter Page ( to review a variety of information, listed on the opposite side.

The Georgia My Voter Page will allow you to check the following:
• Registration and/or Ballot Status
• Polling Location
• Review your Sample Ballot
• Information on the Elected Officials in your District
• Status of Provisional Ballot

How long must I reside at my new address before I vote?

You can submit an address change or register no fewer than 30 days before Election Day.

Private colleges and universities?

Student College IDs are ONLY acceptable from state-funded schools, also known as public colleges and universities. Therefore, students who attend private institutions cannot use their student IDs. Suppose you do not have any of the other forms of identification and you attend a private institution. In that case, you can get a free voter ID at the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections office or visit

Acceptable forms of identification?

When you vote early in-person or on Election Day, you must have one of the following forms of identification:

• A Georgia Driver’s license, even if expired
• Valid Out-of-State Driver’s License
• Any Valid State or Federal Issued Photo ID
• Student ID Card from a Georgia Public College or University
• Valid Employee Photo ID
• Valid U.S. Military Photo ID
• Valid U.S. Passport
• Valid Tribal-State ID

Are college students eligible to work as a poll workers?

Yes, you must meet the following requirements to become eligible:

• At least 16 years of age
• Must be able to read and write the English language
• Must be a resident of Fulton County or adjacent county
• Must have a willingness to serve
• Must have reliable transportation
