Shannon Alea Trotty is originally from Toledo, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University in 1997 where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She received her Juris Doctorate Degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 2001.

Shannon started her legal career as a Staff Attorney in Tiffin, Ohio working for the Seneca County Department of Job and Family Services acting as a Hearing Officer for Child Support cases. In addition to being a Hearing Officer, she also handled their child dependency, abuse, and neglect cases. Shannon went on to be a Staff Attorney for the Lucas County Child Support Enforcement Agency back in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio from 2004-2008. During that time she also ran her private practice where she worked as a Guardian Ad Litem, handled family cases(divorces and dissolutions). Shannon also defended juveniles accused of delinquent acts. In January of 2009, Shannon and her daughter relocated to Georgia.

From 2009 until September of 2010 Shannon worked as a criminal defense attorney with the Atlanta Metro Conflict Defender’s Office. With them, she defended defendants charged with major felony crimes. In September of 2010, Shannon joined the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office where she had the pleasure of being supervised by now District Attorney Fani Willis. In 2015 she was transferred to the Juvenile Division. There she rekindled her passion for working on juvenile cases. In 2018 she was promoted to Deputy of the Juvenile Division. While serving as Deputy she participated in the Juvenile Justice Enhancement Initiative (JJEI) started by the Fulton County Juvenile Court. Shannon now has the pleasure of serving as the Chief Senior Attorney of the newly formed SB440 Unit.

Shannon is a member of the National Black Prosecutor’s Association and an active member of her church, Cornerstone Baptist Church, in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
