Dexter Q. Bond, Jr., a native of Washington, D.C., is a government attorney with over 10 years of experience that expands local, state, federal and international affairs.
Dexter is a proud graduate of Morehouse College -- there, he graduated with honors, earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Sociology. Upon becoming a “Morehouse Man,” Dexter attended the University of Georgia, School of Law – there, he was Top 16 in the UGA’s 1L Closing Argument Competition, later representing UGA on its national mock trial team, he was selected as an Oxford Fellow, studying international comparative human rights law at Oxford University, St. Anne’s College and he served as an Extern with Athens Justice Project, studying criminal justice reform, recidivism and best felony re-entry practices.
With a UGA law degree in hand; Dexter knew that the cornerstones of his legal career were trial advocacy, government relations, and criminal justice reform. It was to no one’s surprise to learn that Dexter, soon after graduating from UGA, would relocate to Washington, D.C. to work on Capitol Hill. Dexter’s Capitol Hill experiences are wide-spread: he was a litigator for a top civil firm, handling all litigation matters related to Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama, served as a research litigation consultant, writing briefs and memos for attorneys arguing before the Supreme Court, hired as a Legislative Aide for his hometown’s congressional district, selected as a 2012 Obama Fellow and appointed to Obama’s Victory Council, a committee of lawyers that handled voting rights litigation.
Dexter, seeking an opportunity to supplement his practical experience with educational theory, enrolled in American University, Washington College of Law. There, Dexter earned his Master of Law (LL.M) in Law and Government, specializing in Constitutional Law and Civil Rights, with an emphasis on the 1st and 14th Amendments.
Upon graduating from American University, Dexter served as the Policy Advisor to the Office of the Fulton County District Attorney. In this capacity, among many tasks, Dexter was responsible for managing the office’s legislative portfolio, representing the office with various stakeholders, including, but not limited to the County’s Board of Commission and Atlanta’s City Council, and, preparing statistical presentations and workshops for trial attorneys. In this role, Dexter was named the Men Looking Ahead News Magazine 2017 Law and Justice Man of the Year, and in 2018, the Office of the District Attorney Manager of the Year. After 4 years with Fulton County, Dexter was hired as Assistant County Attorney with DeKalb County’s Law Department. In that capacity, Dexter had two main functions: 1) he served as the open records custodian for the entire county and 2) was ‘of counsel’ to the County’s Public Safety Team, including, but not limited to – Office of the District Attorney, Office of the Solicitor General, Sheriff Department and Clerk to the CEO and Board of Commission.
To this day, Dexter remains committed to trial advocacy, transparent governmental affairs, and criminal justice reform – he is happy to bring these passions and interests with him as he returns to the Office of the Fulton County District Attorney as Madam District Attorney’s Fani T. Willis’ Deputy Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Dexter is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Office; his responsibilities, to name a few, include overseeing human resources, operational spending, payroll, budget, technology, and grants.
