Body Art Regulations (Tattoo, Micro-blading, and Piercing):

Environmental Health Services is responsible for the regulation of body art establishments where tattoos, piercings, and cosmetic tattoos, including micro-blading, are conducted. All Fulton County body art establishment permit holders must have a valid permit, proof of residency, and a current license from the Fulton County Board of Health in order to operate. Body art establishments are defined as any structure on a permanent foundation, holding a valid business license where body art is performed. Routine unannounced inspections will occur to assure proper sanitation practices that minimize hazards from blood borne pathogens.

 

Rules and Regulations for Body Art/Artists:

A body artist is anyone who is at least 18 years of age who performs tattooing, micro-blading, or body piercings. A body art artist must possess a Body Art License from the Fulton County Board of Health.

Why is the Fulton County Board of Health implementing Body Art Regulations?

The Fulton County Board of Health works diligently to reduce the potential for disease transmission. Body Art Artist routinely break the skin when performing these services, using various instruments, potentially exposing both the artist and client to various diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and MRSA. These regulations establish minimum measures to reduce the potential for disease transmission by establishing cleaning and sterilization procedures for all equipment and instruments used to perform body art services.

I am interested in opening a body art establishment. Where do I need to start?

The Office of Environmental Health Services has compiled a user friendly packet which outlines all information and documentation needed to open a body art establishment.

Are there any additional requirements for the individual artist?

Yes, each artist shall obtain a Body art License. To obtain the license, the artist shall provide the following:

  • Completed Body Art Application.
  • Copy of government issued I.D.
  • Proof of employment at a permitted body art establishment located within Fulton
    County.
  • Documentation that the artist has successfully completed a first Aid/ CPR/AED
    course.
  • Documentation that the artist has successfully completed an OSHA approved Blood
    Borne Pathogen course that provides a certificate upon completion.
  • Report of Hepatitis B vaccination, Hepatitis B antibody testing, contraindication to
    Hepatitis B vaccine, or signed Hepatitis B Vaccine declination letter.
