Major Nina McKinney

Major Nina T. McKinney has the distinguished honor of having served the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office now for 30 years.  An Atlanta native, Major McKinney matriculated through the Atlanta Public School System, before graduating from Southwest High School.  Her desire to pursue a higher education resulted in McKinney attending Savannah State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and a minor in Social Work.  After college, McKinney was hired by one of Atlanta’s largest and most prestigious Law Firms - Troutman, Sanders and Ashmore - where she worked for eight years in the Accounting division.  It was there that she became acquainted with litigation and the justice system.  It birthed within her a desire to seek a career with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.  McKinney’s career in Law Enforcement, commenced in June of 1990, when she was hired by Sheriff Robert McMichael.  She successfully promoted through several ranks to the position she holds today as Major.  She says the experience gained working as a Law Enforcement Officer, an Officer of the Court were in a word, invaluable.  The highlight of her career has been having the opportunity to work in administration and assisting Fulton County Sheriff Theodore “Ted” Jackson, in achieving his goals and mission of protecting life and property and preservation of the public peace for residents of Fulton County, while also maintaining the public’s trust through transparency in law enforcement operations.
